To Honor A Hero
Oskar Schindler
Oskar Schindler (1908–1974) was a German industrialist who is widely recognized for saving the lives of approximately 1,200 Jewish men, women, and children during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories and protecting them from Nazi persecution. Though initially motivated by business interests, Schindler ultimately risked his wealth, safety, and position to shield his workers from deportation and death. His actions have been internationally recognized as an extraordinary example of courage and humanity in the face of genocide.
About Our Cause
“Oskar Schindler Plaza” is a proposed street sign for the historic Pico/ Robertson neighborhood in West Los Angeles 90035.
We request a direct Council motion from the Los Angeles City Council (LACC District 5) for naming the intersection of Pico Bl. and Beverly Dr. ‘Oskar Schindler Plaza’.
To date, we have about 300 petition signatures of support from residents of zip code 90035.

Rabbi Moshe Cohen
Rabbi Moshe Cohen is the founding Rabbi of the Los Angeles Community Shul (formerly Aish Los Angeles). Rabbi Cohen grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland (famous for its riots and as the home of the Bushmills distillery), before he, his wife, and a few bottles were transplanted into Pico-Robertson.
He graduated with an honors law degree from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1977 and mysteriously disappeared to Eretz Yisroel (Israel) for ten years, during which time he married Judith, originally from Basel, Switzerland, and had two children, who both now live on the east coast.
After receiving semichos from Rav Mordechai Eliyahu (former Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisroel), Rav Kolitz (former Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim), and Rav Kopshitz (Tchibin), Rabbi Cohen moved to LA, guided by Rav Noach Weinberg and Rav Yaakov Weinberg, and built this shul and this community, and raised four more children.
Eli Susman
Eli is the Survivor Engagement Coordinator at Holocaust Museum LA and is the grandchild and great-grandchild of Holocaust survivors from Hungary. He has been involved in Holocaust remembrance his whole life.
Dr. Henry Slucki
Henry was born in 1934 in Paris, France to Polish-Jewish parents. After Nazi Germany's initial occupation of France, Henry and his family resettled to the south, where they remained until 1942. That year, Nazi Germany invaded the whole country, and Henry's family escaped through the Pyrenees. They made this dangerous journey on foot, and eventually made their way to Barcelona, Spain. From Barcelona, Henry's parents made the difficult decision to send him to the United States by himself as part of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's initiative to save refugee children. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles, where he became a professor of behavioral science. Henry is actively involved with HMLA and its educational programs.
